This has been a challenging/sad week. First my uncle passes away, then my mom has a bad fall and hits her head and breaks her arm (thank goodness it's just a wrist fracture and nothing more serious), and then my boyfriend Rich and I broke up again :( The break up was done in such an odd fashion, though I don't know if there's a "normal" way to do this. He spent the night and then in the morning as I was getting ready to go for a run he said he wanted to talk. He told me that he decided he couldn't commit to a long term relationship. Since he's aware of my desire to at some point settle down, get married, and have a family -- I told him that we should not waste each other's time and move on. We've had this discussion many times, and I'm tired of it. So this time the break up is final.
The picture above is obviously from happier times and was taken at this year's Okangan fall wine fest just over a month ago. After examining the room carefully, I think it's from Therapy Vineyards. How ironic that I happened to pick this photo for the post out of the hundreds I have of the two of us ;)
Weirdly, after we broke up the song "So long and thanks for all the fish" from the movie the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy kept going through my head. I'm not sure what that means -- maybe that I'm not that devastated by the whole thing -- or that I don't want to be devasted and am trying to make light of it. It's rather tragic, but amusing nonetheless.
Mr. Darcy?
On a somewhat related note, I saw the new Pride & Prejudice movie on the weekend, which was pretty good though of course not as good as the book. And would have been better with Colin Firth. Regardless, I'll definitely see it again when it comes out on video. In any event, it got me thinking afterwards -- so where's my Mr. Darcy? Perhaps he only exists in fiction :( That or maybe I should be looking in the UK -- or at least somewhere outside of Vancouver...
