So having left tech and joined the wine industry, I had numerous friends pester me to help organize an "unconference" for wine, somewhat similar to the infamous "barcamps" that take place throughout the planet at the end of the summer that are so popular with geeks - though on gastronomy and oenology instead of technology :)
Not that it took too much convincing, as I'm always up for something fun! Thus along with a number of Northern Voice/MooseCamp organizers and foodies/oenophiles, we've planned an incredible day of food, wine, and education in a gorgeous setting, UBC Botanical Garden.
We describe it as:
This is definitely not the wine festival. In a more unstructured form than a standard conference, VinoCamp Vancouver brings wine, people and technology together in one place, making wine accessible, educational and fun. As a different type of conference, VinoCamp is designed for those interested in technology and wine, and people are expected to take photos of what's happening, and to blog or tweet or message about their experiences.
Join us! Whether you're speaker, sponsor, or a wine-drinker, our aim is to make this day memorable, fun, and interesting. You will learn more about wine and viticulture, meet interesting people, and enjoy yourself in one of Vancouver's loveliest gardens.
As an inaugural event, there have been and will undoubtedly be some hiccups, but amazingly everything has come together with an awesome line up of speakers (winemakers, sommeliers, wine/food bloggers) and great support from my firm, Artisan Wine Co, and Vancouver's restaurant and beverage community -- Joey's, Trattoria, Joe Fortes, UnWine'd, and Riedel to name a few.
There's still some tickets available and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at VinoCamp 08 on Saturday for Vancouver's Web 2.0 of Bacchanalia!
