I've been remiss in my postings and will try to make up for lost time over the next week or so with my updates. The past week has been pretty fun. I went to the Neil Diamond concert at GM Place with Odette. We had great seats, floor, center, row 20. However to be honest, I was a bit disappointed. Parts of the show were frankly boring -- he played some mellow stuff that I wasn't familiar.
I actually found the Neil Diamond impersonator I saw last weekend at Lulu's Lounge to be better than the real Neil. How could that be? It seemed to be much more lively. I dunno, maybe it's the difference between seeing a concert in a small bar vs a big stadium.
Neil's performance really paled in comparison to Paul Anka's concert I went to last fall with my mom. It was the best show I've ever attended. We had excellent seats, third row just off to the left. The venue was pretty good -- the Ford Center -- I like the intimacy of a smaller theatre vs a big stadium. Paul's band was flawless. The show was like something I'd expect in Vegas. He's quite an artist -- he wrote over a 100 songs, many of the most popular swing tunes of the 20th century. He is also a phenomenal entertainer and the audience (mostly older women with their daughters) was going wild -- well as wild as a bunch of elderly women get ;) My favorite was "You Are My Destiny" -- which he belted out like he was in his twenties.
Red, Red Wine
Our wine club met on Friday night and did a Bordeaux vs "Meritage" tasting. I was a bit disappointed with some of the wines, which given the price ($30+) should have been spectactular -- some of them tasted a bit flat/short.
